The Face of God

We drove eagerly through the fog, maybe a bit too fast, as the cold morning darkness slowly faded and the sun lit up the Grand Tetons. Seeing them was incredible, and it later felt like a spiritual experience.

Even after four months of planning a trip to Canada and back, nothing prepared us for the beauty around us. We found something truly special. It felt like God’s gentle touch made this place a gift for everyone.

I believe that’s why John D. Rockefeller worked to protect this area in the early 1900s. Thanks to his efforts and the support of people across the country, Grand Teton National Park was further developed.

Exploring on foot, my wife and youngest son hiked along the 40-mile mountain range, and we came across a Catholic chapel sitting by Jackson Lake. Since 1937, it has remained untouched and well-kept, as the Tetons themselves are.

As we walked into the chapel, the sunbeams offered light, aimed toward the grand pine altar. It felt like home as familiar smells such as candle wax, incense, and the aging wood of Catholicism brought a deep sense of peace. Resting on a hand-carved wooden pew, we gave thanks to the Creator who shows both strength and love.

Through these moments, I saw the face of God.

What about you? Have you had an outdoor experience that affected you spiritually?
