From Disciple to Lay Apostle

It's depicted that Jesus says to His disciples, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you...Receive the Holy Spirit"(Jn 20:21-22). This moment highlights how the Holy Spirit empowers us, inspiring confidence in those who follow Christ to become Apostles!

The word " Apostle" simply means "one sent out," and, through the Holy Spirit, Jesus sends the Disciples into the world to extend His mission of love, healing, and service (Lumen Gentium, 12). As an Apostolic Church, the succession from Peter signifies a continuous call for all Christians to participate in this mission through their vocations, whether in the priesthood or lay life, when discerned and accepted wholeheartedly.

But what about you and me, the Laity? Can we become Lay Apostles? The transition from disciples of Christ to lay Apostles is a meaningful calling open to all Christians. Like the calling of a Priest, it begins quietly-perhaps through scripture that captures our attention intellectually, and gradually stirs our hearts to live more intentionally in service of His Name.

The Church teaches extensively on the subject, drawing on scripture and the Catechism of the Church. Still, my favorites are the Second Vatican Council's document  Lumen Gentium and The Emerging Laity: Vocation, Mission, and Spirituality by Aurelie Hagstrom.

But what about a simple visual? How would this teaching look in today's world? Check out this short animated video, which describes what it might look like: This is Discipleship.

In the comments below, share your thoughts on the video. How does this calling resonate with you? Do you find it challenging or manageable? Your reflections can inspire others on their faith journey.
